Ads from 141 top brands appear on unreliable AI-generated sites

June 30, 2023

  • In May and June, 141 brands, including major banks and blue chip advertisers, supported unreliable artificial intelligence-generated news and information (UAINs) websites through the funneling of programmatic advertising dollars to these sites, according to a study by NewsGuard.
  • Most of the advertisements were placed by Google, per the report, and the number of UAINs tracked by NewsGuard grew from 49 to 217 in a month.
  • Because the ads were generated programmatically, they were placed automatically regardless of the nature of the platform, meaning advertisers may be unaware their content is appearing on such websites, according to NewsGuard.

Tear Down This Data Wall

June 5, 2023

A new book in The Seven Big Problems series makes the case for democratizing data to succeed in digital transformations.

Last fall, federal rules took effect that required health care organizations to give patients unfettered access to their full health records — troves of information gathered and stored digitally. That meant patients could better understand their care, shop for services, and find their own opportunities to participate in research.

Barriers to better care, costs and research were knocked down when patient information was democratized. It was a major victory for proponents of data sharing, and it’s likely to spur innovation in the sector. It suggests that others’ digital transformations could benefit from collaborating through shared information — further breaking down silos within organizations.

At a time when only 11% of global chief marketing officers believe that they have completed their digital transformation, per a MediaSense survey, there’s a good reason to believe that many organizations need to consider a new framework for implementing change. To tackle the challenge, professors Zeynep Aksehirli, Koen Pauwels, Yakov Bart and Kwong Chan wrote Break the Wall: Why and How to Democratize Digital in Your Business. It’s the third book in the series The Seven Problems of Marketing, edited by Bernie Jaworski.

New Marketing Report Calls for End to Passwords, Mass Changes to Identity Authentication

November 26, 2021

Based on a recent survey of 2,000 consumers, the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) Council and the Business Performance Innovation (BPI) Network are calling for companies to unify and modernize identity authentication processes to avoid a mass exodus of customers.

The survey appears to indicate common frustration with traditional password-based login systems and anti-bot measures such as CAPTCHA, to the point that consumers are abandoning online retailers that make the process too tedious or fail to provide adequate security.
